How to Install the Pace Edwards BedLocker Electric Retractable Tonneau Cover

Feb 19 2026

The Pace Edwards BedLocker is a premium electric retractable truck bed cover designed for push-button convenience, enhanced security, and dependable weather protection. With its powered aluminum blanket and wireless key fob operation, BedLocker delivers effortless access to your truck bed.

While some steps vary slightly depending on your truck model (Ford F-150, Maverick, Silverado, Sierra, and others), the overall installation process remains consistent.

This guide walks you through the major installation steps to help you install your BedLocker confidently and correctly.

Before You Begin

Tools Required:
  • 3/8” wrench or socket
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • Tape measure
  • Masking tape
  • Utility knife or scissors
  • Needle nose or side-cut pliers
Most standard and full-size trucks will not require drilling. However, verify that your truck has factory drain holes before beginning.

Step 1: Remove Packaging & Inspect Components

Your BedLocker ships in two boxes:
  • Canister box
  • Rail box
  • Remove:
  • Canister assembly
  • Top cover
  • Rails
  • Clamp pack & hardware
  • Drain tubes
  • Wiring harness
Important to Remember:
  • Remove and discard plywood shipping supports and bolts
  • Do not slide rails out of the box to avoid scratching
  • Perform a quick inventory to confirm all components are included.
Step 2: Install the Wiring Harness

From inside the truck bed:
  • Push the long end of the wiring harness (without plug) through the driver-side stake pocket.
  • Leave approximately 1 foot of slack inside the bed.
  • Route the harness underneath the truck toward the battery.
  • Attach the fuse holder to the red (positive) wire.
  • Do not connect to the battery yet
  • Secure the harness using provided zip ties once routing is complete.
  • Optional Dashboard Switch
  • An optional harness (Part # BL-1120) allows manual operation from inside the cab
Step 3: Position the Canister
  • Place the canister just behind the cab, centered side-to-side.
  • To allow rail installation:
  • Elevate the canister 2–3 inches above the bed rails using shipping box material or supports
  • Pull the blanket out approximately one foot and let it hang.
  • Do not allow the blanket to roll back on itself, as this may damage the ribbed surface
Step 4: Install the Rails
  • Remove protective paper from underside of rails.
  • Attach the machined end of each rail to the canister.
  • Lift the ribbed blanket slightly and thread it into the rail while sliding the rail into the rail grip
  • Ensure both rail flanges fully engage the rail grip.
  • Push rails forward against the canister.
  • Lower the assembly onto the bed rails.
  • Slide canister forward against the cab.
  • Adjust rails to leave approximately 1/16” gap at the tailgate
  • This gap allows proper tailgate operation and overstroke clearance.
Step 5: Install Rail Support Shims (Model Specific)

Certain BedLocker part numbers require rail support shims at the bulkhead (example: BL2127/2128/2129/2134/2135)

If applicable:
  • Mark rail front position with masking tape.
  • Apply foam at bulkhead.
  • Add white and black shims beneath each rail to level the cab end.
  • If your part number does not require shims, proceed to clamp installation.
Step 6: Install Clamps & Set Between-the-Rails (BR) Measurement

Install two clamp assemblies per rail.

Important details:
  • Use the long clamp grip at the canister end.
  • Use the short clamp grip at the tailgate end
  • Do not exceed 120 in-lbs when tightening clamps
Before fully tightening:
  • Measure between rails at canister and tailgate.
  • Confirm measurement matches the specified BR dimension for your part number
  • Ensure no more than 1/8” side-to-side play
  • Proper BR spacing is critical for smooth operation and long-term performance.
Step 7: Install Kickstands
  • Kickstands stabilize the rails at the tailgate end.
  • Attach to clamp grip.
  • Rotate so pivot foot contacts the flattest part of the bed wall.
  • Adjust bolt inward until rail is visually level
  • Re-verify BR measurement after leveling.
Step 8: Lubricate & Position Sweep Seals
  • Locate the sweep seals on each rail.
  • Apply provided UV protectant to underside of sweep seal and top of wear strip
  • Ensure seal angles outward toward the blanket, not inward.
  • Avoid alcohol, petroleum, or silicone-based cleaners.
Step 9: Connect the Electronics
  • The electronics box is pre-mounted inside the canister.
  • Plug wiring harness into the 2-wire connector.
  • Connect red (positive) and black (negative) wires to the battery.
  • Test operation using included two-button key fobs
  • Press Open to retract and Close to seal.
Step 10: Install Drain Tubes
  • BedLocker channels water into the canister and out through drain tubes.
  • Confirm foam washer is on drain fitting.
  • Insert fittings into pre-drilled holes under canister until they click into place
  • Route tubing through factory access ports or drilled holes (3/4” clearance if needed).
  • Trim to proper length.
  • Proper drain installation ensures optimal water management.
Step 11: Install the Top Cover
  • Place the top cover on the canister and secure using the two black screws.
  • Use thread-locking adhesive (Loctite recommended)
  • Hold tight against cab side while tightening.
  • Add additional foam if a gap exists at the front sill.
